While I admire your diplomacy, Michael dear, I must say that the months we were in Costa Rica were my worst coffee months ever. There was a time when I was simply ignorant about really good coffee and would not have known the difference, I must say that the bitter and often biting flavor of most coffee in Costa Rica left me with a daily sense of disappointment and longing. I can walk into any major grocery store in the U.S. and find better coffee everyday. Costa Rican coffee is one thing I do not miss. Nor do I miss the arrogance of the coffee illiteracy in C.R. Just because they grow it does not mean it tastes good! I could not get used to it.

Other than coffee, shopping, and food, I loved Costa Rica!

I go to Big E's in Sarasota. I do like his coffee, but he also makes good tea. Big E's is my favorite place for lunch with my friends too because I meet everyone there and after many years I am very relaxed. Eric is a generous and thoughtful guy who helps a lot of people in the neighborhood.

Thanks Tynisa,

Really appreciate the feedback. As I write this, we are in Palo Alto, Calif at Peets Coffee and Tea (at one of the original locations). My wife is enjoying a Large Latte Breve and I am enjoying my second - exquisite - doppio (double espresso).

Yummo.

Thanks again

I love the pic's. I'm not a big "coffee snob" or anything but I do enjoy a good cup o' joe. I found out more about coffee in that one article than I ever knew before. I give it two thumbs up (For the coffee and the article)!

Hi,

thanks for linking up my Japan coffee post.

I see that you recommend Longbottom in Portland. To be honest, in the 8 years I lived in Portland, I don't think I've tried it (but, would like to). In Portland, I usually hit Coffee People. Their extra-large Black Tiger Mocha (4 espresso shots) put me to the moon. I used to knock one down before my calculus exams and would always finish first, with an "A" score.

Anyway, there's a place here in Tokyo called Jiyugaoka that has some of the best coffee and sweets (cakes and pastries) shops in the world. Hope you can make it someday.

Cheers,

Billy West
